about
With “At My Feet (Hounds of Hell)” Swedish power duo Molosser Crude take a step sideways from the heavy blues/stoner rock trail they’ve been following this far, and find themselves with one foot in the borderlands between noise rock, hardcore punk and jazz. This track is faster-paced, with a relentless drive that ends up in a screaming crescendo, and the duo has dedicated it to noise rock heavies Unsane – more about that later.
As for the release, though, the duo’s MO is the same as usual. The track is recorded live, all in one take, as can be witnessed on the video that will be released at the same time as the audio single. Drummer Tess also handles the vocals – that have a mean, wicked jazz flavour to them – while guitarist Jahn plays bass, rhythm and driving leads at once by splitting the signal from his hollowbody guitar into three amplifiers. The result is a massive onslaught of sound that belies the tiny size of the combo. “At My Feet (Hounds of Hell)” is a song that’s hot as smouldering brimstone and cool as the night wind in the desert.
You know Delta blues legend Robert Johnson’s “Hellhound on My Trail”? Well, drummer/singer Tess has encountered the same hounds, but instead of running away, she brought them to heel on the new Molosser Crude track.
“I really don’t like talking too much about my lyrics”, says Tess. “That might stop people from finding things I didn’t know were there, and that would be a pity. When it comes to ‘At My Feet’, though, I can tell you that it’s about facing the dark side rather than turning a blind eye to it. It’s when we pretend that the dark stuff is not there that the really nasty things start to happen.”
Molosser Crude’s earlier tracks have moved in a heavy blues/stoner rock environment, while “At My Feet”, takes off from a somewhat different place and has a certain hardcore punk tinge to it. The duo has dedicated this track to New York noise rock giants Unsane, and guitarist Jahn explains why:
“I was mucking about with the riff from Unsane’ s ‘Scrape’, but on a guitar downtuned to drop C, and as usual my fingers started doing their own thing. It ended up with a kind of quirky riff/bassline in 5/4 or perhaps 10/4 time. We do have some odd time signatures in both Molosser Crude and the acoustic duo, but that’s just because the riffs chose to be that long. No one seems to have noticed that ‘Pushing My Way’ does not add up to a standard 4/4 meter, and that’s just how we like it. It’s one of the perks of working with a drummer like Tess, though – regardless of what time my fingers decide to rock to, she’s there to pick it up and make it sound totally natural. “
Like many of Molosser Crude’s songs, this one was originally written for the sister duo Molosser, where both Tess and Jahn play downtuned acoustic guitars. “At My feet” will also be included on the acoustic album that the guitar duo is recording this spring – but, as with the other songs, in a radically different version. The two combos inspire and cross fertilize each other and allow Tess and Jahn to go all in and take each concept as far as it needs to go.

range from old delta blues rawness to sizzling noise. Add the powerful, melodic vocals of drummer Tess and you might get an idea of what this duo creates with the unlikely set-up of an electric drum kit and a thirties-style jazz guitar run through three amplifiers at once....more

Faerie Ring return and so does the RIFF, all caps. Faerie Ring take what would be a cookie cutter riff from anyone else and just JUICE it so thoroughly, with passion and energy and melodic interest and the all-important rhythmic groove (much more important to a good stoner riff than loud fuzz), that it just blows out your speaker and makes you mean mug. Guaranteed. I loved the wacky sounds they created in the studio that really push this over the edge from great into bonkers-great. pinkytheent
